• Speech Day 2015

Friday, 19th June was a pleasantly warm and sunny evening for the 35th Annual Prize Giving Ceremony of St Lawrence College. The Guest of Honour this year was His Excellency Mr John Kittmer, the British Ambassador to Greece since 2013. Read more...


• SLC Awarded Top Grade for Organisation of Public Examinations

After exactly seven weeks and 100 different exam papers sat by over 150 candidates, the public IGCSE, AS and A Level exams are finally over. This has been a very busy time for our candidates and invigilators in the gym but fortunately everything has gone smoothly-so much so that on visiting St. Lawrence College, a Cambridge Examinations’ Inspector rated our school as completely satisfactory which is the highest grade a centre can be awarded. • Family Day

On the last day of term, Early Years pupils and staff welcomed parents t the Kindergarten and treated them to a morning of singing, dancing and games. The children and their parents joined in a variety of activities and games such as Egg and Spoon, Three-legged races and a fun obstacle course too.  Read more...


• Our Russian Assembly

On Friday, 12th June, the whole school sat in the Cultural Hall for a Russian assembly. Under the dedicated direction of Ms Litke, the pupils who take Russian as their second foreign language performed a lively, musical series of sketches and songs. Read more...


• Summer Concert

On Friday, 5th June, the thoroughly enjoyable annual Summer Concert was held under the guidance of Ms Panou the music teacher, Ms Crawford and her colleagues who undertake peripatetic music teaching here at St Lawrence.  Read more...


• Farmers for a Day

Year 1 classes were treated to a trip just down the road from school in Vari in the first week of June. They didn't have to travel far to have a whole lot of fun though as the children declared their visit to The Perivoli of Vari a total success! Read more...


• A Couple of Grand Days Out

Grade 3 has been out and about these last few weeks, visiting some of the most notable sightseeing venues of this part of the country. On Wednesday, 27th May,  the children visited the National Archaeological Museum of Athens to see the ancient artefacts on display. Read more...


• Ooh Lala

Mesdames et Messieurs, Tuesday 5th May was the day of a Year 4 assembly with a distinctly foreign flair. The children showed how multilingual they are with a series of sketches and songs, in French of course. Read more...


• Fireman Sam in Action

On Thursday 28th May, the Early Years pupils in FS1 visited the fire station in Ellinikon  to reinforce the topic ‘People Who Help Us’.  Our three-year-olds were warmly greeted by the friendliest fire fighters you could wish for who talked to the children about the dangers of fire. Read more...


• The Vorres Museum Trip

On Thursday, 28th May, Grade two took a trip to the Vorres Museum in Paiania, East Attica. This museum is one of a kind, housing artifacts of Greek folk and contemporary art. Its beautiful grounds are very enjoyable for the children to spend time in. Read more...


• Three Cheers for the Cheerleaders

The school was treated to a wonderful display of talent on Wednesday, 27th May. The gym was packed full of parents and pupils of the Junior school to watch a variety of performances go ahead. First up were the younger girls from Year one upwards, who belong to the Rhythmics Club, an after school club in which they learn to perform a combination of gymnastics and dance moves as a group. With their cute, sparkling outfits they couldn't help but catch the eye and melt the hearts of everyone watching. Read more...


• Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars

Ms Katsamba’s Reception class managed to shine brightly in their assembly performance on Friday, 29th May, despite a technical hiccup which temporarily tried to dim the lights. The Science topic of Stars was chosen from the children’s own interest in the nature of stars and why their questions about why exactly they shine so brightly.  Read more...


• An Unforgettable Trip to Pelion

On  the 22nd to the 24th of May our pupils in Grade 9 accompanied by Ms Bizos, Ms Poulimenakos, Ms Kladouchou and Ms Spyrilioti took part in an educational trip to the picturesque area of Pelion in central Greece, a peninsula of stunning beauty and great history.  Read more...


• All the Fun we Had!

Ms Treharne’s assembly was on Friday 15th May and the theme was “All the fun things we have learned in Reception!” The children dressed up in all sorts of costumes to recite little pieces about all the things they had learned during the year.  Read more...


• Dragons and Tales

Dragons and Tales was the theme of Ms Tsatsouli’s Year 2 assembly on Friday, 3rd April. It was largely inspired by the Literacy unit in the Key Stage 1 curriculum on fantasy writing.    Read more...


• Determination in Grade 3

3 V’s assembly entitled Determination was held in the Cultural hall on Friday 8th May 2015.  The theme of the show encouraged the children to never give up and to keep on trying, no matter how tough things might seem to be.    Read more...


• Junior Sports Day 2015

Years 4, 5 and 6 took part in the very successful Sports Day events on Friday, 8th May. It was fresh and breezy, which kept the temperature down and provided coolness for the eager young athletes of the day. • Easter Fun

The last day of the spring term at school was a busy one, packed full of fun and exciting things to do. On Friday 3rd April, the children were treated to some special events including a Bake Sale, an Easter Fayre and an Easter Bonnet Parade   Read more...


• Museum Visits for Grade 6

On 6th May 2015, Grade 6 pupils who follow Modern Greek History this year, visited the Old Parliament House in Athens. The pupils toured the building which now houses the National Historical Museum and experienced the feeling of the Old Parliament Room.  Read more...


• We Love the Zoo

On Monday the 4th of May the F.S.1 and F.S.2 classes visited the Attica Zoological Park in Spata. They saw many different animals: some lying in the sun soaking up the sun’s rays, others preferring a shady corner to play in as it was a hot, sunny day!  Read more...


• Grade 5 to the Agora

Grade five pupils who follow Greek History, were treated to a trip on Thursday 30th April. They visited the archaeological site of the Classical Agora in Plaka, Athens.  The children, accompanied by Ms Kyriakopoulou and Ms Tsirigoti, enjoyed spending time under the Acropolis, soaking up the atmosphere on the old marketplace in the warm spring sunshine. • Grade 10 Conquer Mount Elikonas

Just over 20 adventurous Grade 10 pupils had their practice International Duke of Edinburgh Award expedition to Mt. Elikonas last weekend. They hiked over 20km from Neohori to Koronia in small groups of 4-7 people, carrying all their food, cookers, tents and other necessities in their rucksacks.  Read more...


• Records Smashed at Sports Day 2015

Despite the recent unpredictable weather, the sun came out for Senior School Sports Day 2015 and helped it to become one of the most memorable yet. the enthusiasm for the day was as high as ever before, and the events didn't disappoint, with records being broken at an impressive rate. • A Visit to the Ecological Park

On Friday 27th March the Foundation Stage 2 classes visited the Ecological Park in Nea Psychiko, to reinforce their introduction to the topic of ‘The Environment and Recycling’. These young children had the opportunity to safely learn the right way to discard the recyclable items which they had been collecting over the last few weeks.  Read more...


• Exploring the History of Explorers with Grade 4

4R’s class assembly on Friday 13th March transported the audience to the world of explorers.  Dressed as famous explorers of the sea, skies and space, they sent an inspiring message to everyone: that we should endeavour to reach for the impossible and be the best we can be.  Read more...


• Buddies

Over the past 8 months, the Year 6 pupils have felt closer than ever to the Senior School as they have taken part in an exciting new project called The Buddy Programme. Our ten and eleven year-olds have been matched up in groups with the oldest pupils in the Senior School, the Upper-Sixth prefects.  Read more...


• Chess Tournament Comes to a Close

The Senior School's Grade 7-9 chess tournament has this week come to a close after months of hard fought battles between some very talented players. The tournament began in February and ran through all of March with pupils giving up their lunch times to battle it out with each other and decide who would be crowned the chess master. Read more...


• Gymnasts of the Future

The Early Years’ gymnastics morning on Thursday 2nd April was a lovely event for the families and friends of some of our youngest pupils. The gym was full of mini action - hops, skips and jumps were bravely attempted by the children under five. Read more...


• Grade 2 Explore Benaki Museum

Always a popular and valuable destination for a school trip, the Benaki Museum in the centre of Athens had much to offer to the Year Two children of St Lawrence College. On Thursday 26th March, the three classes trotted along to have a little taste of everyday Greek culture from days gone by.  Read more...


• Water, Water, Everywhere

All year long, the pupils in Mr Alachouzos’ Year five class anxiously awaited their turn to perform an assembly, and on Friday 27th March, they finally had their chance. Through a humorous play led by two characters called Drip and Drop, the children delivered a message of how the water cycle works and of its importance in our lives. Their performance finished up with a catchy rap tune at the end that had them all singing happily. Read more...


• Senior School Celebrate National Day

The national day, a traditional celebration across all parts of Greece, was celebrated with a collection of poems, a short play, folk songs and dances performed by Junior School pupils. The Senior School celebrated the national day with two presentations. The first one was a chronicle of the Greek Revolution. The second one was about the contribution of women to the Greek War of Independence. Read more...


• Reception Class Visit Goulandris Museum

On Friday March 27th, Reception pupils had a lovely visit to the Goulandri Museum of Natural History. It was an informative and enjoyable trip during which the children saw a range of their favourite animals – the lion, the kangaroo and the giraffe, to name just a few. Even the skeleton of that huge stegosaurus proved a new favourite! Read more...


• Snoozy Days at School

It probably goes without saying that Reception classes’ Pyjama Day  was a real success. Boys and girls in both classes enjoyed a relaxing yet fun day. “Our little ones were excited to show off their gorgeous pyjamas, snuggly dressing gowns and even matching slippers. They brought their favourite teddy bears and bedtime stories to school to share with their friends.  Read more...


• Independence Day Celebrations

On Tuesday, 24th March, the day began with a Senior School assembly at which the Junior School Greek Choir sang in remembrance of the 1821 Day of Independence. Following this, parents and Junior School children came along to the Hall to watch the whole Independence Day celebration. The children of the Greek Choir sang a range of beautiful songs with some accompaniment from Mr Kleopas on the guitar and Ms Tsirigoti as conductor.   Read more...


• Myths and Legends

Inspired by Ancient Greek Myths and the changing of the seasons, 3B pupils shared their talent with families, friends and all in Grades 3 to 6 by performing a most memorable play titled, “How the Seasons Came to Be.”    Read more...


• May the Force be with You!

On Friday 20th March, Miss Pringle’s 6P class delivered a memorable Science assembly to their families, teachers and fellow pupils. Through practical demonstrations and fun explanations, a rhythmic rap and an amusing retelling of an ancient Greek myth too, they taught their audience all about forces and their effects on our daily lives.   Read more...


• Impressive Results at Forensics Competition

Another very successful Panhellenic Forensics Association Tournament this year, as St Lawrence College achieved very impressive results, quite possibly our best ever! The tournament was held at Mandoulides school in Thessaloniki, on the 19th – 22nd March. With 18 schools from the whole of Greece taking part, we came 1st in Debate and, with an amazing 9 finalists which equaled our best ever number, 2nd in the Sweepstakes events.   Read more...


• Why I Like ME!

On Friday, 6th March, Ms Maniatis' first grade class stepped onto the stage and spoke about all the different reasons they liked themselves. Ms Maniatis was particularly impressed by her children’s confidence and abilities.   Read more...


• What a Shock Everyone Got

2G’s class assembly took place on the morning of Friday 27th February. The theme was ‘Electricity’ as it was a topic covered in their Science lessons and all the children had a chance to show what they had learned.   Read more...


• Quiz Season

It’s that exciting time of year again when each grade from two to six in the Junior School takes part in their annual Inter-House Quizzes! All of the pupils are included in the whole competition and there is an air of excitement surrounding the preliminary rounds in class. Following these rounds, scores are added up to see which lucky children make it to the semi-finals, where they get their first taste of answering questions aloud in front of an audience: their own grade.  Read more...


• Pupils Prepare for Forensics Competition

This weekend, 34 of our pupils, ranging from Grade 9 through to A-Level pupils, will be representing the school at the Panhellenic Forensics Association Tournament. This annual event sees eighteen schools from across Greece compete in a range of speaking disciplines. As you will know our school always fares well, typically ranking in the top three schools in the tournament.   Read more...


• Talents Showcased in Senior School Art Exhibition

Yet another highly successful Annual Art Exhibition has come to an end. Pupils from the Senior School exhibited their wonderfully creative work for a two week period. Visitors from both in and out of school commented in the visitor’s book, quite often highlighting their favourite pieces - art being subjective of course!   Read more...


• The NO Project comes to St Lawrence College

St Lawrence College was recently lucky enough to be visited by founder of the NO Project, who came to present her work on human trafficking to all Grade 11s. The NO Project is an independent campaign that focuses on educating young people about the modern slave industry.  Read more...


• Another Proud Day for St Lawrence College Sport

Thursday 5th March saw the St Lawrence College girls' under 14 football team enjoyed a characteristic victory at a tournament held at Campion School in Pallini. The competition involved 3 of Athens' British schools -St Lawrence College, Campion School and St Catherine's School- a meeting which always brings out the best in our young football stars. • Charity Work

On Tuesday, 3rd March, a beautifully warm spring day, the children of 6P helped to carry all of the generously donated bags to the Smile of the Child charity van. On Carnival Day, all the children from kindergarten up to our eleven year-olds had been asked to remember goods such as dried foods, toiletries and household essentials for the charity. • Carnival Fun!

The sun certainly had his hat on for the annual Carnival celebrations of Friday 20th February. After a week of frosty mornings, blustery days and even snow flurries which distracted the children from their lessons and delighted them no end, it was as if a different season had decided to show its face for the big day itself. • Boogie Nights

Friday 13th February was a fun night for grades four, five and six who came straight back to school at six thirty, not for more lessons, but for a chance to dance and strut their stuff under a disco ball! The cultural hall was filled with flashing lights, loud dance music and happily noisy kids who wriggled and jiggled away on the dance floor. Read more...

• Basketball Teams take to the Courts

February 16th proved an exciting day for sport as both the St Lawrence College girls and boys basketball teams took part in tournaments across Athens with impressive results. The boys managed an honourable second place at home, losing only their final game against ACS with a 21-32 score line. • A Little Bit of History

It was an exceptionally cold and snowy day when Grade 4 visited the National Archaeological Museum on Tuesday, 10th February. The children were divided into two History groups in order to learn about either Greek or Roman History. Both groups were given guided tours of the relevant areas of the museum in which they saw rare exhibits. Read more...


Love's Tragic Tale Retold

On Friday 6th February, Ms. Pavlounis’ Grade 5 class enthusiastically performed a humorous, modern day version of “Romeo and Juliet.” Tudor history is an important and enjoyable part of the Grade 5 curriculum, so when the pupils of 5P learned that Shakespeare was a playwright in Tudor times, they were eager to perform their own version of famous scenes from one of his plays.  Read more...


Football Crazy, Football Mad

Tuesday, 3rd February was a very special treat for forty 5th and 6th graders who went on a trip with the PE teachers to St Catherine’s School in the northern suburbs of Athens. The occasion was a friendly football tournament in which the children played a series of games against teams from other schools.  Read more...


Pupils take Part in Creating Writing Workshop

For the past six years, pupils of our school have been participating in a Creative Writing Workshop which is organised by the Greek Ministry of Education. Greek schools from all over Attica are invited to take part. St Lawrence College is the only British School that sends pupils to the competition, which makes the success of our pupils every year very impressive.  Read more...


Water Skiing in Peru

The week of 11th - 18th January this year saw St Lawrence College Grade 11 student Aris Techoueyres compete in the under 17 World Water Skiing Championships. The tournament was this year held in Bujama Lacus, a private lake 89 kilometers south of the Pan-American Highway in Peru.  Read more...


Friendly Games of Volleyball

On Monday 19th January, St Lawrence College hosted an inter school volleyball tournament with visitors from St Catherine’s, Campion and ISA. A total of 135 players altogether participated from 5th and 6th grades in these schools. Our school was able to put 27 teams of three onto the courts for a series of games.  Read more...


Biology Department Pilot Online Learning

The St Lawrence College Biology Department have been working hard this term to create a collection of online folders to support pupils as they study. These folders contain presentations and videos relevant to the topics taught.  They also contain copies of the notes and questions for each topic should a pupil misplace the paper copy.  Read more...


Christmas is a ‘Claus’ for Celebration!

Christmas is always an exciting time at St Lawrence College for both the Junior and Senior schools, and this year was no exception. We had bazaars, carols, Christmas shows and even a visit from a very special guest. Read more...


'On the Spot' Drawing Competition

On Saturday the 22nd of November 11 pupils from St. Lawrence College, accompanied by Ms. Galloway and Ms Poulimenakou, participated in an ‘On the Spot’ drawing competition. The competition was organised by the Indian Embassy and was hosted by Byron College. Read more...


Santa’s Little Helpers Get Busy Baking!

Friday 21st November marked the start of Christmas festivities in the Early Years classes in a mouth-watering manner with the little ones’ Annual Baking Day. The school’s youngest pupils in FS1, FS2 and in the Reception classes enjoyed stirring, mixing, rolling and baking with the infamous Santa’s Secret Cookie Recipe.  Read more...


Volleyball and Football Teams Victorious

Thursday 20th November proved to be a victorious day for both St Lawrence College's under 16 sports teams. First was the girls volleyball team who triumphed against their opponents winning all 4 games, and losing only 1 set in the entire tournament to St Catherine's who placed second. Olive Oil-Producing Pupils Take to the Countryside!

On Thursday 6th November, Grade 5 pupils were very excited about visiting the “Κτήμα Μουσείο Οίνου” (The Farm-Museum of Wine) in Pallini, Attiki, where they learned about farming in its varied forms here in Greece. They were exposed to both the traditional and modern methods of producing olive oil as well as learning how the different types of olive oil are selected. Read more...


The Lorax Came to Visit

Friday, 7th November, was an exciting day for Mrs. Tapankidis’ Grade 2 class. As part of Grade Two’s science work on Living Things, Habitats and Caring for the Environment, the wonderfully creative story of ‘The Lorax’ by Dr Seuss was performed.’ Read more...


Oχi Day Commemorated by Junior School

The annual celebration for ‘Οχι Day,’ 28th October, was celebrated in the Junior School this year with a sweetly told play called ‘Like a Fairy Tale’. Ms Giaouri began with a quotation from none other than Albert Einstein, who once said, ‘if you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want your children to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales.’ Read more...


Bewitched by First Grade

On Friday, 17th October, Grade 1T turned into witches, ghosts, skeletons, bats, cats and a vampire to perform the story of “Winnie the Witch and her Friends.” The children happily retold the tale of how Winnie the Witch and her black cat Wilbur live together in their black house. Read more...


Early Years Ride in to the Wild West

On Friday 17th October, the Early Years classes of FS1 and FS2 enjoyed a wonderful experience: a morning of pony riding at the “Antoniou” Riding Club in the nearby village of Kouvara. As well as making the most of the outdoor activities on offer at this idyllic location, they also had the opportunity to freely interact with llamas, Shetland ponies and a variety of other small farm animals on the site. 2014 Autumn Festival Draws Crowds

Each year St Lawrence College holds its Autumn Festival to celebrate the start of the school year with a Halloween twist. The 2014 Autumn Festival took place on Friday October 17th and it certainly lived up to its reputation of being an excellent evening. Read more...


Junior School Assemblies off to a Great Start

On Friday 10th October, Mrs. Siafakas's Grade 5 class  performed the first assembly of the year  with a brilliant play entitled 'Awful Egyptians'. The play explored the history of Ancient Egypt in a unique and exciting way. Read more...


Model United Nations: A Success and an Enjoyable Experience!

Sixth Form Pupils Investigate Zakynthos

The last weekend of September saw AS & A-Level pupils from St Lawrence College embarking on a trip to Zakynthos. The Lower Sixth Geographers were there to measure coastal erosion at Argassi beach, investigate the changing development of Zakynthos town and interview local people. Read more...


• The 2014 Autumn Festival is Nearly Here

As the days get shorter and cooler, our thoughts turn to autumn and all the wonderful changes which occur in the natural world around us. Instead of feeling sad about the passing of summer, we can instead look forward to the celebrations that the autumn and winter seasons bring. One such celebration is our very own St. Lawrence College Autumn Festival – where parents, children, teachers and friends enjoy a whole evening sampling delicious foods and embracing the autumn spirit. • St Lawrence College "Races for the Cure" Once Again!

On Sunday 28th September, pupils of St Lawrence College, along with parents and teachers, took part in the annual “Race for the Cure” charity event held in aid of breast cancer research, treatment and also awareness. These “Race for the Cure” events take place annually in over 140 countries and attract thousands of people into raising money for the cause. Staff, parents and pupils got involved in the Athens leg of the event which began in Zappeio, central Athens. Read more...


• Grades 8 and 9 Pupils Learn to Sail

Grades 8 and 9 were this week treated to a visit from the Lightning Sailing Academy, a Voula-based company who specialise in teaching people of all ages to sail. The visit involved LSA's instructor Mr Vazakas even bringing along a sailing boat, which was set up in the pool area, allowing pupils to explore the vessel and learn more about the sport. • Outstanding Public Exam Success for St. Lawrence College Pupils

Today the school received the public exam results for those of our pupils who sat IGCSE, AS-Level and A-Level exams – and what a wonderful set of results they are! Once again the hard work of pupils (and their teachers!) has resulted in quite brilliant exam results and has enabled our pupils to progress to universities in the UK and all over the world. • Tennis Tournaments Serve Up Excitement

The St. Lawrence College tennis team has certainly been busy recently with two tournaments within four days. On Friday May 9th, our pupils participated in the annual Under-14 tennis tournament that took place at the American Community School (ACS) in Aghia Paraskevi. Read more...

• Follow The Forensics Finals As They Happen

This Year's Panhellenic Forensics Tournament will be taking place at HAEF (Athens College - Psychico College) on Thursday 27th - Sunday 30th March. St Lawrence will be participating with a team of 33 pupils who will be competing in the various events: Oral Interpretation of Literature (comic/dramatic), Duet Acting (comic/dramatic), Oratory, Impromptu Speaking, Group Discussion and Debate.

Racing For The Cure

On Sunday, September 29th, St. Lawrence College took part in the fifth annual race against breast cancer, the Race for the Cure. This symbolic race takes place once a year in 140 countries around the world and aims to promote the continuing crucial work to find a cure for breast cancer-work which is increasingly helping women to overcome the disease, especially when it is diagnosed in its early stages. Making Use of the Fruit (and Vegetables) of our Labour

Shortly before the summer the Organic Cultivation Club was founded and its members under the watchful eyes of Ms. Kladouchou and Ms. Walters planted tomatoes, peppers, cucumber and aubergines as well as a variety of herbs that apparently fend off pests. Read more...
