U16 Boys Volleyball & Girls Football

On Thursday, 21st November, our school hosted the Boys Under-16 Volleyball Tournament, while our Under-16 Girls Football Team participated in the tournament at St. Catherine's.

The girls had an outstanding performance, winning all three of their matches with an impressive 6 goals scored and only 2 conceded. Their hard work paid off as they were thrilled to receive gold medals and the 1st place trophy after a long, challenging day of matches.

The boys also gave a commendable effort, winning one game and narrowly losing two. All their matches were highly competitive, with each going to a deciding 3rd set. Ultimately, the boys secured 3rd place and are eagerly looking forward to their next competition.

Congratulations to all the players for their dedication and sportsmanship, and a big thank you to the coaches, Ms. Dikaioulia and Mr. Styliatis, for their guidance and support.

Parents were in attendance, not only cheering on their children, but participating in the parents' races as well. They enjoyed themselves as much as the pupils for sure! The children relished a day in the sports field where they cheered for their team-mates and competed for the 40 or so medals being awarded to our young runners.

Well done to all those who participated and thank you to everyone who came and helped create an electrifying atmosphere.

Annual Awards ceremony 2022

On the pleasantly warm evening of Friday 17th June 2022, we held our 42nd Annual Awards Ceremony for pupils of the junior and senior schools. Our Guest of Honour was Mr Matthew Lodge, the British Ambassador to Greece since August 2021, who spoke of the importance of savouring every moment of the journey towards reaching life goals – a valid point for these challenging times that we live in.

The pupils proudly received their awards for academic excellence, for effort, progress, sportsmanship, and overall contributions to school life, in front of their families, friends and staff. Our graduating pupils in Year 13 were in high spirits as their prospective paths in life were announced by our Headmaster, Mr Holden. The mood was uplifting and there were smiles all around as everyone of us appreciated being able once more to participate in this special event on such a grand scale after a hiatus of several years through the pandemic. A fine reception with delicious foods and drinks was enjoyed by guests afterwards.

To the graduating class of 2022, we wish you every success in your future endeavours!

Basketball Results

Both St Lawrence boys' and girls' under-16 basketball teams competed in tournaments last week.  Six international schools participated from all around Athens, putting on an impressive dispolay of skill and sportsmanship.

Though our girls played very well, this time they did not leave with medals. The boys however qualified all the way through to the end where, after a tightly-fought game, they took a very respetable 2nd place, losing only to ACS in the final.

Well done to everyone who took part.

40 Year St. Lawrence College Reunion

A ‘40 Year St. Lawrence College Reunion’ took place on Wednesday 18th December. It gave us all great pleasure to see former pupils of the school again, in some cases after many years, and it was a wonderful opportunity to catch up on their news and keep the St. Lawrence community alive.

Over 120 Alumni responded to our invitation. They came to compete against our current school teams in volleyball, football and basketball matches, representing their old school houses of Attica, Epirus and Macedonia. Beyond the sports field, they participated in a number of forensics and debate events. It was a wonderful opportunity to reminisce!

For this event our school decided to support PIKPA VOULAS and through a number of charity drives, ending on the day of the reunion, we managed to raise 6,182 euros to be able to purchase mattresses, which are urgently needed for the beds of the children in the orphanage of PIKPA VOULAS.
Dear alumni, you know that you are always welcome here at St. Lawrence College and it will always be our pleasure to see you. Don’t forget us, keep in touch!

We would like to thank our sponsors without whom this event would not have been possible:

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Parents vs Pupils

Thursday 20th December saw St Lawrence College hold a very succesful charity sports event between parents and pupils. Not only was it great fun, but more importantly, it also raised an impressive €3,813.65. The event saw parents and pupils play against each other in some tense basketball and football matches.

With this money we have managed to buy 500 bed-sheets and 160 pillow cases for the Children’s Hospital Ag. Sofia in Athens. Our Senior School house captains will be handing over the donation to the hospital in the next few days.

We would like to sincerely thank each and every one of you for all your support and generous donations!

The results of the games were as follows:

Basketball game 1:           Parents VS pupils              17-28
Basketball game 2:           Parents VS pupils              43-42
Football game 1:              Parents VS pupils                4- 4
Football game 2:              Parents VS pupils                5- 9

Wishing you all a happy and healthy 2019.

To Ski or not to Ski? No Question!

41 pupils in Year 8 went to Mt. Parnassos, the most well-developed ski centre in Greece, to enjoy a two-day ski trip last week. It was an action-packed adventure with pupils partaking in seven hours of ski or snowboard lessons with certified instructors. For some it was their first chance to have a go at learning these winter sports, whilst for others it was an opportunity to hone their skiing or snowboarding skills to a more advanced level. The pupils enjoyed the beautiful mountain scenery, fresh air and glorious weather. After hitting the slopes, they were able to enjoy some ice skating and there was plenty of opportunity to sample traditional local cuisine in mountain tavernas. Great fun was had by all and their huge smiles said it all!

Year 7's Adventures in Malakasa

Year 7 pupils had the chance to expand their sports activities on Tuesday 23rd May, by taking part in a Physical Education trip to the ‘Adventure Park’ at Malakasa. The activities included “flying routes", which are pathways from tree to tree the children must navigate using zip wires, rope bridges connecting some heights not for the faint hearted, and other exciting obstacles. The excursion was an excellent opportunity for children to put their physical fitness and dexterity to the test, in such a wonderful location with great weather. We look forward to going back soon!
